The news that YouTube inked Paris Hilton points to an interesting marriage between a celebrity who "gets" video streaming and generating buzz, and a Web site that specializes in both. A recent news story in the Financial Times points directly to some of the key differences between "old media" and new players that are all about consumer-generated content. To quote the FT, "Today's success stories - Google News, MySpace, YouTube and iTunes - either let users generate the content or repackage the traditional media. Online or off, it seems that Paris Hilton is here to stay."
Whether you watch Current TV, download YouTube videos, or you make up your own playists for your iPod, you're already playing with this hot new media. Radio can participate in this arena, if we're able to recognize the opportunities. And that's why we're looking forward to Ben McConnell's session on CGM at Jacobs Media's Summit 11.
